Christmas Tour of Historic Homes
Homes and places that are finely decorated for the Christmas season will be found during December in historic Rockwood, nestled at the base of Walden’s Ridge. Since 1991, on the first weekend of December, Rockwood has opened its doors to take visitors a step back in history with its Christmas Tour of Historic Homes. All proceeds from the Home Tour are used by the Rockwood 2000 organization to protect, preserve and promote Rockwood’s unique heritage, and to improve the quality of life for residents in and around Rockwood, Tennessee.
The Tour of Homes features beautiful old historic homes, and character actors who will interact with guests. These characters are based on actual people who played a role in Rockwood's past. Just enjoy the sights, smells and sounds as together we welcome in the Christmas season.
Past home tours have included as part of the festivities live Nativity scenes, living history presentations of the Civil War by Sons of Confederate Veterans, displays of authentic Civil War artifacts; model railroad museum; fire station museum; Roane County historic picture displays; genealogy workshops; art shows; antique quilt displays; fantasy of trees; music presentations; church tours and a festival of Christmas lights.
Rockwood offers visitors excellent food; arts and crafts shops; antiques and more.
Each year visitors are treated to a bountiful array of refreshments. All the refreshments are prepared from recipes in the Rockwood 2000 Christmas Committee Cookbook. This provides an opportunity for a tasting sampler. Cookbooks are available for purchase for those who wish to replicate these tasty dishes.
Consider visiting Rockwood next December during the first weekend of the month. You will be glad you did.
