Welcome

Rockwood 2000 was established in January 1991. A group of citizens and business owners who wanted to revitalize Rockwood Tennessee met and decided to form an organization. A board of directors was chosen, a charter written, and Rockwood 2000 became a nonprofit organization.

In June of 1991, a subcommittee of Rockwood 2000 called the Rockwood Christmas Committee was formed. The idea was conceived when a group of historic home owners met at the Sewell Howard home on Kingston Avenue. An idea for a Christmas Home tour to showcase our heritage as well as the historic district emerged from this meeting. From July of 1991 to December of 1992, $52,000 of Christmas lighting was designed and purchased for the city through private donations. Included in this project was a 40 foot star now placed on Mt. Roosevelt which cradles Rockwood. On December 7, 1991 the first home tour set the precedent of a tradition exemplifying Rockwood's southern Christmas hospitality.

On June 3rd, 2005, the 1936 Tennessee Highway Patrol Museum was dedicated. This restoration led to an annual festival commemorating the early days of Tennessee's transportation history. The Thunder Road Festival was held that first year and has grown faster than any other event in Rockwood since. Each year on the third weekend in April, come and join Rockwood as they celebrate the days of bootleggers, fried pies and stack cakes, along with classic cars and bluegrass music.

Rockwood 2000 has enjoyed the blessings of phenomenal community support. Mayors and members of the city council have allied with us in pursuing our ongoing renaissance. We anticipate many years of continued success, and we encourage interested members of our community to join us in our pursuit of the revitalization of Rockwood.

Rockwood 2000 pursues the vision of a renaissance in the city of Rockwood through implementation of historic preservation, projects that beautify the city, and activities that celebrate community pride.

Rockwood 2000 is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

Special thanks goes out to the fabulous job that Rick and Travis, from the Blossom Barn have done decorating for the Rockwood 2000 Christmas events such as the   U S Bank reception Friday November the 27th. The downtown Lampost and the Homecoming Park stage are an example of professional and positive attitude that these guys put forth to make Rockwood proud. Thanks again guys and what a wonderful, wonderful job you have done, Judy Wassom.
